Shaw is out of contract at United at the end of the 2017/18 campaign and Jose Mourinho has hinted that the 22-year-old left-back could be in line for a new deal.
Mourinho has publicly slated Shaw on a number of occasions since taking over the reins at Old Trafford so the Portuguese’s recent comments took many United fans by surprise.
However, MirrorSport suggests discussions over Shaw’s new contract have been put on hold and this has put United’s rivals on red alert.
It’s claimed both Chelsea and Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation and could move for the England international in the summer.
Mourinho dropped a hint that Shaw would be rewarded with a new contract after a string of impressive performances for the Red Devils.
‘I know Shaw since he arrived in the Premier League with Southampton and know his potential and quality,’ Mourinho said earlier this month.
‘Could he come in my direction? The way I like my players to be not just on the pitch but during the training week? And he made a big effort.
‘He’s been free of minor injuries for a few months which sometimes stops the evolution and I’m really happy.
‘The natural consequence of it is that he will have his contract and he will be a United player for years.’
