Suranne Jones has sent Coronation Street fans into a frenzy – by revealing she’d consider returning to the famous cobbles for a charity special.
Suranne played soap favourite, feisty Karen McDonald for four years, but bowed out in 2004 after a explosive showdown with on screen hubby, Steve McDonald.
But when asked whether she’d like to make a comeback after fourteen years away from Weatherfield, Suranne revealed she’d definitely consider it if it were part of a Comic Relief special, or to raise money for charity.
The 39-year-old actress explained, “If it was for a good cause and we were going to raise a lot of money, I’d definitely consider it for Comic Relief.”
She continued, “I don’t have time to keep up with Corrie but I’m friends with Jennie McAlpine [who plays Fiz] and Anthony Cotton [who plays Sean] so I do catch up.
“But I didn’t know Steve had a baby – that is news to me and I am gobsmacked,” Suranne – who recently picked up a National Television award this year for her title role in acclaimed Doctor Foster – added.
Unsurprisingly, the in demand actress’s confession has delighted soap fans, who are calling for TV bosses to make it happen in the near future.
One fan commented, ‘I would love her to come back.’
‘She is fantastic corrie would be lucky to have her back,’ another added.
Meanwhile, mum-of-one Suranne – who is currently on stage in West End play, Frozen – will be back on our screens later this month in new Sky Atlantic’s gritty new thriller, Save Me.
The anticipated series, which centres around a kidnap plot, will see Suranne star as a character called Claire alongside the show’s writer and fellow cast member, Line of Duty actor Lennie James.
We can’t wait to tune in!
