The legendary Frenchman ended his 22-year reign at the north London club at the end of the season and the search is already underway to find a successor.
And now Sky Sports report that Arsenal executives will sit down and hold face-to-face talks with the Spaniard on Thursday.
Chief executive Ivan Gazidis, head of football relations Raul Sanllehi and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat will all meet with Arteta – though he is not the only person scheduled for talks.
Arsenals decision makers will also meet with core players from the squad to get their opinion on who should replace Wenger and gauge their feeling towards Arteta.
Should Arsenal decide that Arteta is the right man to guide them in the post-Wenger era, Manchester City have already intimated that they will allow him to leave.
On Artetas potential move to Arsenal, Pep Guardiola said: If he stays I will be happiest guy in the world. If he decides to move because he has this offer, this option, I will not say you cant go.
Some reports have claimed that Arteta is already planning his backroom team and wants Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla – who he played alongside for three seasons – to be one of at least three new staff members.
