Steven Gerrard wants to convince Jurgen Klopp to allow Rangers to sign Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke on loan next season, reports say.

Liverpool legend Gerrard was announced as the new Rangers boss earlier in the month and he is already busy preparing for the 2018-19 campaign.

The 37-year-old, who will be joined at the Ibrox Stadium by former Reds midfielder Gary McAllister, has his sights set on attacking reinforcements.

The Daily Record say he wants Solanke and Jermaine Defoe to spearhead his Rangers attack next season as he bids to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title.

Solanke, 20, has started just six games for Liverpool this season following his summer move from Chelsea and Klopp may decide that a loan stint at Rangers would be worthwhile.

Gerrard is also keen to secure a deal for Premier League goalscorer great Defoe, who moved to Bournemouth from Sunderland last year.

The Cherries are confident Defoe will see out his contract, which expires in 2020, but could be open to the possibility of sending him on loan to rediscover his form following a difficult campaign.

After his unveiling at Rangers, Gerrard also reportedly identified Martin Skrtel as a target for the club.

The Slovakia legend played over 300 games for Liverpool during his eight-year stay at Anfield and could leave Fernerbache this summer.
