Chelsea are confident of securing a double deal for former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri and Italy international Jorginho, according to reports in Italy.

The FA Cup holders have been in a state of limbo all summer long with Antonio Conte still in his position as manager and not a single move having been made in the transfer market.

Conte returned to the clubs Cobham training base over the weekend and has has overseen the start of pre-season training, despite acknowledging he is almost certain to be sacked.

Chelsea have been in negotiations with Sarri, who has already been replaced at Napoli by Carlo Ancelotti, for months but have been unable to agree a compensation package with the Serie A side.

Sky Sport Italia claims, however, that by including Jorginho as part of the deal, Chelsea will finally land their man as well as one of Manchester Citys primary transfer targets for around £57 million.

The Premier League champions had been confident of securing a move for the Brazil-born playmaker who had been singled out for praise by Pep Guardiola last season.

City will not be held to ransom by Napoli, however, and are prepared to walk away from the negotiating table as they did twice last January, pulling the plug on deals for Fred and Alexis Sanchez, both of whom eventually signed for Manchester United.

Once installed as Contes successor, Sarri is likely to press ahead with moves for Aleksandr Golovin and highly-rated Juventus defender Daniel Rugani.
