Paul Merson fears Arsenal could be in the relegation zone after the first two matches of Unai Emerys reign.
The Gunners start their season on Sunday with a difficult opener against champions Manchester City at the Emirates and things wont get easier next week as they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Despite investing heavily in the squad he inherited from Arsene Wenger, Merson fears a new-look Arsenal side still is some way from being able to compete against the best the division has to offer.
He [Unai Emery] couldnt have wished for a worse start, Man City at home, Chelsea away, he said on Sky Sports.
They could be in the bottom three after two games, which would be a shame for the manager.
Tomorrow you will see a team that will make it very difficult for Man City to break them down.
It wont be like the old days where we have a shot, you have a shot.
However, Merson praised new Arsenal boss Unai Emerys transfer strategy after he signed five new players the team needed.
Emery brought in Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Lucas Torreira , Bern Leno and Matteo Guendouzi.
Hes bought players that they needed. He needed defenders, hes bought experience in Lichtsteiner, he added.
But, 35 years of age. How many 35-year-olds are playing in the Premier League? Especially at the back. But hes bought experience, its going to be different. He needs time.
