Manchester United are poised to make a move for Medhi Benatia in January, reports say.

The Juventus defender is the subject of intense transfer speculation and threw in his future in doubt by admitting he could not continue to be sidelined at the club.

Arsenal have long been linked with a move for Benatia, but United are ready to offer the centre-back a way out of Juventus.

Tuttosport claim United have made their interest in Benatia known, as Jose Mourinho targets the addition of a defender in January.

Mourinhos faith in his current centre-backs is at an all time low, with the United manager regularly chopping and changing his back four during a difficult season.

I struggle to play with no consistency. I was doing well last season because I was playing on a regular basis, he told La Stampa.

He added: I am 31 and I want to play as much as I can. Lets see what happens in January, how many games I will play.

Lets see if Juve and (Massimiliano) Allegri need me. I am here to give my best and thats what I will do until Im here. If the mister will need me in the Champions League I will be ready.

United are reportedly preparing for a busy winter transfer window, as Mourinho looks to rescue a dismal season.

The Red Devils will be in Turin on Wednesday night to take on Benatias Juventus in the Champions League.

Juventus 1-0 win at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture put them in firm control of Group H, but United will be keen to avoid another disappointing performance against the Italians.
