Fantastic first food festival for Up Helly Aa

Shetland’s first pop-up food market is taking place the day the day before Up Helly Aa.

Running on 29 January from 4-, entrance is free and organisers are expecting a few new products to be launched, making it an unmissable event.

In attendance will be:

Viking Mead, the first brewery of its kind in the Shetland Islands.

Shetland Reel, A Shetland Distillery Company producing island- inspired gin and blended malt whisky, the most northerly distillery in the UK.

Mirrie Dancers Chocolatiers, producers of handmade and designed Pralines and Truffles.

Mackenzie’s Farm Shop & Cafe, who sell their own croft (beef, lamb, pork, eggs, vegetables) along with their own ‘All Over Fair Isle Knitting’.

The V Bird, a new company that specialises in vegan produce, including vegan-mayonnaise, vegan bean dips and ‘Nightingale’s Notella’ a healthier chocolate spread.

Thule Ventus, selling hand-crafted salt cod, rooted in centuries-old traditions. The fish comes in sealed packs that can stay in your store cupboard for at least nine-months.

Lj’s Diner & Pizzeria, based on the island of Yell it;s menu provides a wide range of choices from pizzas, burgers, fish and steaks to freshly-made sandwiches and soup.

Aald Harbour Tearoom, providing dainty sandwiches and savouries, mini scones, sweet treats and delicate cakes.

Up Helly Aa is a Viking festival of fire held annually at the end of January. The festival began in 1870 and celebrates the influence of the Scandinavian Vikings in the Shetland Islands.

The event will be taking place at Mareel in 29 January and the organisers look forward to welcoming all visitors.
