Schnatter sparked controversy in October when he said the NFL protests are the direct result of sliding sales.

He went after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in a conference call, in which he reportedly said: ‘The NFL has hurt us by not resolving the current debacle to the players’ and owners’ satisfaction. NFL leadership has hurt Papa John’s shareholders.’

The comments are an indication that people are actually boycotting games.

The protests, which see players taking the knee during the national anthem before a game, is still rumbling on in the background of politics.

Donald Trump has voiced his criticism on numerous occasions, and continues to fade in and out of the conversation. Although, he’s been far more interested in talking about his new tax bill as of late.

His little stunt could have cost the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of dollars.
