Russian officials have sprayed ‘perfume’ on a rubbish dump so Vladimir Putin doesn’t notice the smell.
The president is due to visit Balashikha tomorrow, which is close to the Kuchino landfill site in Moscow.
Nervous government workers decided to try and mask the noxious smells with de-odouring spray via tractors.
Residents have already complained to Putin about the stink in a televised phone-in, so he definitely knows about it.
Not everyone is convinced about the spary, especially local environmental campaigners who have mocked it.
A local environment activist group wrote online: ‘Today we visited Kuchino landfill and discovered aerosol spraying machines…
‘There are three of them now. But they are not really helping with landfill gas.’
It added: ‘The odour is really strong even 50 metres away.
‘The substance they are spraying smells a bit sweet.
‘Emergency ministry operatives are here 24/7.’
Pro-Kremlin news site Life said the spray ‘resembles bad perfume’.
