A man was given a surprising early Christmas present in the form of a kitten that was delivered to his door in the post.

Will Zweigart was handed a cardboard box by a bewildered postal worker this morning with the stray kitten inside it.

The delivery woman – who works for US postal chain UPS – told Will the kitten had run out in front of her car and was howling.

At a loss for what to do, she tracked down Will online.

He works for a cat rescue service named Flatbush Cats in Brooklyn, New York.

Charli the kitten is now being looked after by his organisation – and is looking for a new home.

‘It was a complete surprise when my doorbell rang and the UPS worker told me a small kitten had run in front of her truck and was howling,’ Will said.

‘She didn’t know what to do, so she scooped the kitten up in a box and took her to my house as she knows I work with cats – talk about a special delivery.

‘Even though we were already overloaded with other rescue kittens, we took her in.

‘When we got her, she was malnourished, dehydrated and covered in fleas, but now she is doing very well.

‘She will be spayed and receiver her vaccinations next week and hopefully she will be adopted shortly after.

‘Funnily enough another postal worker now wants to adopt her.’
