A police department receiving angry emails and Facebook messages about the arrest of a teacher is begging people to stop.

That’s because people are confusing the department in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, with one in similarly-named Vermilion, Ohio.

The Ohio unit pleaded on Facebook: ‘Please stop sending us your hate mail.’

People are reacting to the arrest of Deyshia Hargrave, an English language arts teacher at Rene Rost Middle Schools in Kaplan, Louisiana, who voiced her disagreement to a pay rise for her superintendent.

Hargrave asked board members: ‘We work very hard with very littler to maintain the salaries we have. I don’t care if the performance targets are met — you’re making our jobs even more difficult. We’re meeting those goals, while someone in that position is getting a raise? It’s a sad, sad day to be a teacher.

‘When I first started teaching there was like 20 kids in a class and now there are 29 kids in a class, and we have not have been given raises. How are you going to take that money? It’s basically taking it out of our pockets.

‘How are you taking the raise when you’re basically taking from the teacher and employees under you?’

Board members repeatedly told Hargrave and other teachers that the meeting is to discuss the superintendent’s contract, and not their salary.

But the teachers argued back.

The back-and-forth barely got heated before a security guard stepped in and told Hargrave to leave.

He is heard saying: ‘You’re going to leave or I’m going to remove you.’

She was led out of the room. But seconds later, a commotion is heard.

Hargrave is then seen on the floor after claiming the security guard pushed her there.

The video ends with people questioning the security guard’s actions in a parking lot while Hargrave is thrown into the back of a police car.
