Wenger shocked the football world last Friday when he revealed this season would be his last in charge of the Gunners, and already a host of high-profile managers have been linked with the soon-to-be-vacant post.
Simeone – who takes his Atletico side to the Emirates on Thursday for the first leg of their Europa League semi-final – is among the candidates, though he says there have been no talks yet.
Asked if he had spoken to anyone at Arsenal, Simeone told his pre-match press conference: No, I havent spoken with anyone at Arsenal.
On his respect for Wenger, he continued: The first thing that comes to mind is admiration for [Wenger]. Hes had to reinvent himself.
I see myself as a young coach and I want to observe him and learn from him. The position he has occupied in football is wonderful.
Given the love he [Wenger] has for Arsenal he will want his team to continue winning.
Its always great to take ideas from a coach like Wenger.
On his players motivation for the tie, and specifically ex Chelsea frontman Diego Costa, Simone added: In terms of Diego he is just as motivated as our backup keeper. We are all motivated. Arsenal will demand us to be at our best.
