Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred has confirmed that Manchester United are in talks to sign him this summer.
Fred has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time and the Red Devils are reportedly on the cusp of landing the 25-year-old midfielder ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
City held discussions with Freds entourage back in January but its understood the Premier League champions are focusing their efforts on landing Napolis Jorginho.
Speaking at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, Fred revealed: There have been some advanced talks since January, when I almost went to Man City.
Soon after City, United talked to Shakhtar and my agents. And today, if Im not mistaken, there is very strong interest from United.
My head is in the World Cup. My agents are taking care of it. I try to do my work in the field and leave the extra field for Gilberto Silva.
My staff are looking at what is best for me. Who knows after the World Cup I can make the best choice for me.
Earlier this month, Fred claimed that it was his dream to one day join a major European club.
He told SporTV: I want to make a bigger leap, I made it clear to the club.
Now I just have to wait to get through the World Cup and see which is the best destination.
I think I have to change a little. I have dreams of playing in major clubs in Europe. I made it clear that its my moment.
The club are reluctant to release [me]. I have a contract until 2021. As soon as I come back from the World Cup we will sit down, talk and look at the options.
