According to AS, Zidane intends to call the 33-year-old, who learned of the Frenchmans decision while on holiday in Marbella, and convince him his future remains in the Spanish capital.

Throughout his two-and-a-half year tenure, Zidane had regularly and vehemently defended Ronaldo, particularity during the first few months of last season when the form of the clubs record goalscorer dipped markedly.

The report also claims Zidane lent heavily on Ronaldo for advice and the former United star felt at ease, speaking candidly about team matters with his former manager.
