The Great British Bake Off returned this week, with heaps of baking puns and saucy innuendos, bringing in a total of 6.1 million viewers.

And now it seems the BBC – who originally produced the show – want a taste of the pudding, as theyre said to be working on yet another show to rival it.

According to The Sun, the bosses are recruiting for a programme simply titled Celebration, which will be a competition between rival bakers and cooks.

“The BBC has been trying to fill the huge gap left by Bake Off moving to Channel 4,” a TV source said.

It comes after previous series with former Bake Off judge Mary Berry and 2016 winner Nadia Hussain failed to find an audience.

Theyve brought out Mary Berry for Best Home Cook, which was a bit flat. And they had ex-winner Nadiya Hussain for the Big Family Cooking Showdown, which had to be overhauled for a second series that no one really wanted, the source explained.

“And now theyre launching yet another cookery show that stinks of the Bake Off. It might have got huge numbers back in the day for them but the obsession is getting out of hand.”

The new series will reportedly start on BBC2 and the application form asks for “amateur cooks and bakers” who want to be part of an “exciting prime-time food programme.”

Celebration will be made by Hungry Gap Productions, who have already made The Hairy Bikers Comfort Food, and Nadiyas Family Favourites for the BBC.

Bake Off made a shocking move to Channel 4 in 2016 after the network failed to offer enough money to its makers Love Productions.

The beloved series lost its well-known judge Mary and presenters Mel and Sue during the move, leading many to believe the show as we knew and loved it was officially over.

However, when the series returned on Channel 4, viewers were pleasantly surprised as the new team – Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig – sent temperatures soaring with their jokes and chemistry.
