Virgil van Dijk has revealed that he poked fun at Alisson in the aftermath of his error in Liverpools 3-1 victory over Manchester United.
Alisson gifted United an equaliser when he spilled Romelu Lukakus cross into the path of Jesse Lingard and the England forward made no mistake from close-range to cancel out Sadio Manes opener at Anfield.
Second-half substitute Xherdan Shaqiri sealed three points for Liverpool with a pair of deflected strikes in the final 20 minutes and the match turned out to be Jose Mourinhos last as United manager.
After the final whistle, Jurgen Klopp claimed his side were determined to come back and beat United for Alisson and Andrew Robertson stressed that the Brazilian had the backing of Liverpools entire squad despite his mistake.
Van Dijk had a slightly different approach, explaining: I said to him “We have no clean sheet because of you! Why did you ruin the clean sheet?”
I made a joke out of it. Hes been fantastic for us. It happens, everyone makes mistakes.
Its about how we react and he did brilliantly in the second half. He didnt get nervous.
You see it a lot… maybe I didnt react as well as maybe I could have. It happens sometimes. We had to all bounce back and we did.
It was a very important to win. You could say it was just another game but it was a bit special because it was against them.
It had been a long time since we beat them at home and it was well deserved.
