Ali Carter beat Ronnie OSullivan in last years World Championship and he is hoping for another crack at the Rocket this time round.

The Captain is into the final round of qualifying for the Crucible, needing to beat John Astley to make it 17 straight years that he has made it to the World Championship.

In the second round last year, Carter came up against OSullivan, and quite literally came up against him during the match when they shouldered each other and exchanged words.

Carter went on to win the match 13-9 and he would love another clash with Ronnie, should he make it that far.

I hope I qualify and Id love to draw him again first round. Itd be a great match, Carter said of the prospect of playing OSullivan.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing him last year, Hes the man now, everything he enters hes winning and Id turn up and give it my best shot again. But Id just be delighted to qualify.

Carter has a sensational record of making it to the Crucible in each of the last 16 seasons, twice reaching the final, in 2008 and 2012.

Being a sufferer of Crohns disease and having been diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2013 (from which he swiftly recovered), the 39-year-old is especially pleased with his record.

17 years, with what Ive been through with my Chrons and my cancer, thats not a bad record really.

Theres plenty that would not have done that if theyd have had that thrown at them.

Carter beat snooker legend Jimmy White in the second round of qualifying and admitted that it can be a struggle taking on such a fan favourite.

I potted some great balls there and theres not a murmur, but every ball he pots he gets, “Good shot Jimmy!” right behind me, and when the heat is on it can get up your nose a little bit.

I coped with it well and I was pleased to clear up in the last frame to win.

Im delighted to get through to the final qualifier and its on to the last match now.
