Manchester United sent two scouts to monitor Benfica forward Joao Felix on Monday as they weight up their summer options.

The 19-year-old scored twice in a 6-0 win over Maritimo to keep Benficas noses in front of Porto in the Primeira Liga and he will have impressed United officials who made the trip to the Estadio da Luz.

Regular Portuguese scout Joao Ferreira was joined by one of Uniteds lead scouts Simon Wells – a figure highly respected by the clubs hierarchy – in order to get a second opinion on the attacker, according to the Daily Mail.

Manchester United are casting their net far and wide in a bid to add a new versatile attacker to Ole Gunnar Solskjaers squad as top targets Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi are proving difficult to land.

Borussia Dortmund are adamant Sancho will remain with the Bundesliga side and Chelsea are intent on keeping Hudson-Odoi, who has just suffered a an Achilles injury likely to keep him sidelined for four months.

Felix can play wide or through the middle and therefore fits Uniteds bill, although they are reluctant to cough up Benficas £104million asking price.
