Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has admitted he preferred living in Italy amid interest from AC Milan.

The Uruguay international joined the Gunners in a £23million deal from Sampdoria last summer and impressed during his debut campaign at the Emirates.

Torreira made 50 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners last term and was an instant hit with supporters, who warmed to his tenacious approach in midfield.

Milan are believed to be close to appointing Marco Giampaolo as a replacement for Genaro Gattuso and the Sampdoria boss is believed to be keen on a reunion with Torreira.

And the midfielder has done little to dampen speculation that hed be open to a move to the San Siro by admitting he preferred life in Italy compared to England.
