Manchester United target Matthijs de Ligt close to joining PSG
Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly on the cusp of an agreement to sign Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt.
De Ligt, 19, had an outstanding campaign for Ajax, captaining the club to their first domestic double in 17 years, and Europes heavyweights have been at war over the central defenders signature.
Though Manchester United offered De Ligt a £350,000-a-week contract to make the Dutchman the highest paid teenager in world football, the Red Devils have lost ground on their rivals in this summers fiercest transfer race.
Barcelona and Juventus have also made advances for De Ligt, but their efforts appear to have been in vain as PSG are on the verge of signing the Netherlands international, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The report suggests that De Ligts agent, Mino Raiola, spoke with PSG sporting director, Antero Henrique, in the French capital on Tuesday and talks are expected to continue into Wednesday.
Its claimed discussions are at an advanced stage and the Ligue 1 champions could get their man once Leonardos return as sporting director is complete.
Leonardo, who is a free agent after stepping down at AC Milan last month, is set to take over from Henrique imminently and could be key to getting a deal over the line for De Ligt.
The Brazilian, who served as PSGs director of football from 2011 to 2013, has a close relationship with Raiola and previously helped broker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Maxwells moves to Paris.
De Ligt has stressed that money will not come into his thinking when he does decide which club he wants to play for next season.
Money is not the problem, the young centre-back told Mundo Deportivo.
The most important thing is knowing in the team where you go [that] you will have prominence and play many games.
I still dont know what my heart says. On my holiday, I will be able to think it over and decide what I am going to do with my future.
I dont know when Im going to have it figured out, but Im going to take my time.
