Zion Williamson says he will take up LeBron James on his offer for advice after the New Orleans Pelicans selected the precocious teenager as the No.1 overall pick at the 2019 NBA draft.
There were no surprises at Thursday nights ceremony at the Barclays Center in New York, with Williamson selected by New Orleans, fellow phenom Ja Morant the No.2 pick by the Memphis Grizzlies and R.J. Barrett selected at No.3 by the New York Knicks.
LeBron was the first overall pick back in 2003, joining the Cleveland Cavaliers, and told Zion earlier in the year that he has a lot of advice and its not hard to find me if he wants to get it.
And Williamson will do exactly that, telling reporters after the draft: I actually did see that interview. I probably will hit him up – hopefully he responds to me!
My questions would probably be like, what do I have to do to maintain? What do I have to do to stay consistent?
Asked who else he will go to for advice, Williamson added: Just veterans, from all teams, who have been in the league for like 10+ years, maybe 7+ years, because theyve usually been through it all by then.
And the best advice Ive been given is just to be myself and keep my love for the game.
