A beloved man recently named Teacher of the Year was murdered after he stopped to give two strangers a ride, police say.
Fredrick McCrays body was found dumped under a pile of garbage and plywood near a dog food plant on Monday in Ferriday, Louisiana.
Police say McCray, 27, gave a ride to Jimmy ONeal Lewis, 48, and Cedric Tennessee on Sunday – but the pair of strangers robbed and shot him in the head.
Authorities told KNOE both Lewis and Tennessee have given full confessions and are charged with first-degree murder.
McCray had just finished his first year working at the Natchez-Adams School District and was named the 2018-2019 Middle School Teacher of the Year.
His mother, Carol Williams, said the last she heard from her son was when he texted her to let her know he was on his way home.
She told said that news of his death was Very shocking, heartbreaking, unbelievable.
Williams also said that the mother of one of her sons alleged killers reached out to her to offer condolences, but Williams did not say who it was.
She gave me her condolences of how much she knew she couldnt bring him back but how deeply sorry her family was, Williams said.
McCrays coworkers at the school district mourned the loss of the kind teacher who was in the process of starting on his doctorate.
