Thousands of people offer to adopt newborn rescued from plastic bag in woods

Thousands of people have offered to adopt an hours-old baby girl who was wrapped in a plastic bag and left to die in the woods.
Officials say Baby India may have been only an hour old. She was found wrapped in the bag in a wooded area in Cumming, Georgia with her umbilical cord still attached.
The remarkable rescue was captured on a police body cam after the Ragatz family heard the infant wailing near their home on June 6.
Alan Ragatz told KTLA that he first thought the cries were a baby deer or raccoon, but later discovered it was a poor little baby wrapped up in a plastic bag.
The day after the infant was found, the Forsyth County Sheriffs Office held a press conference and said: It is without doubt a divine intervention that this child was found.
The Division of Family and Children Services took custody of the girl as police search for her mother.

Tom Rawlings, director of Family and Children Services, said India is in a wonderfully protective home right now.
Shes gaining weight and smiling a lot. Shes an easy baby who loves to be held and sung to, and shes overall thriving now.
Although Rawlings is a lawyer, not a doctor, he said his work taught him that Baby India will likely not remember being abandoned in the woods.
At this young age, children are very resilient, he said.
Now, countless families are lining up to adopt the baby girl, who many are calling a miracle.
Rawlings said: She cried out for help. Weve had, literally, thousands of people across the country and other parts of North America come forward wanting to adopt Baby India.
