Rafael Nadal says he is looking forward to taking on long-time rival Roger Federer in the semi-finals of Wimbledon – their first meeting on grass since their famous five-setter back in 2008.

The Spaniard progressed in relatively serene fashion, coming through in straight sets 7-5 6-2 6-2 against big-serving American Sam Querrey out on No.1 Court in the quarter-final.

Federer had a slighter tougher match, dropping the first set against a fired-up Kei Nishikori, but came through the test to set up a much-anticipated tussle with Nadal.

The two have not done battle at Wimbledon in 11 years, while Nadal won their last meeting in the semi-final of the French Open – though Federer had won the six previous, all on hard courts.

Asked about Fridays semi-final, Nadal told the BBC: Its great, difficult to imagine to be again in that situation but here we are.

I am excited about the victory for today, but excited to play Roger again at Wimbledon after such a long time.

Asked at his post-match press conference if he will look back on previous meetings, Federer said: Not so much the French Open, I do believe. I feel like conditions were slightly different. It was so windy, as you know. It was just insane.
