Australia batsman Steve Smith has broke the record for the most successive half-centuries against a single opponent after frustrating England yet again in the final Ashes Test at The Oval.

Replying to Englands first-innings total of 294, Australia slipped to 14-2 when Jofra Archer removed opening batsmen David Warner and Marcus Harris.

Smith and Marnus Labuschange steadied the innings, however, combining to put on 69 before Archer claimed his third wicket of the day, trapping Labuschange LBW for 48.

But former Australia captain Smith was not to be denied another fifty and, by reaching the landmark, became the first player to make ten successive 50+ scores against a single opponent.
