A gay man says he was pinned to the floor of a church by its congregants who tried to convert him to heterosexuality.

Sean Cormie, 23, came out as gay in the spring. He said since then his parents have been asking him to join them at church, urging him to bring his partner, Gary Gardner.

The couple joined Cormies family last week at the First Assembly of God Church in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Sean said he has attended the service many times – but this time was different.

He said: I wanted to go to church to make my mom proud and make her happy.

The service went as it normally did until the end. Sean told KFOR that 12 to 15 congregants circled around him and Gardner and began praying loudly.

Sean said the pastor then began loudly condemning homosexuality.

(He said) “Its a sin, its an abomination, you need to realize, wake up, and see it for a sin, Sean said.

The churchgoers continued to get louder and louder. Sean said he and his boyfriend were humiliated so they tried to leave, but only Gardner was able to get out.

Sean said: They hold me down, pin me down, and Im crying, and the Holy Spirit just comes through me, and they keep speaking in tongues, praying over me.

He said he was even punched in the face and added I was just crying “mercy, mercy.

After he was finally able to escape the church, he went to the Blackwell Police Department and filed a report – but he is now getting threats from strangers and family members asking him to drop the issue.

Cormie said: I cant believe it, a church of all places should show hate not love.
