Alf-Inge Haaland insists he would welcome the prospect of his son, Erling, joining Manchester United despite his affiliations with Leeds United and Manchester City.

The 19-year-old striker has had an outstanding start to the season, scoring 11 goals in his opening seven league games for Red Bull Salzburg, before completing a hat-trick on his Champions League debut against Genk on Tuesday evening.

He is the first teenager to score more than once on his Champions League debut since Wayne Rooney fired in his memorable hat-trick against Fenerbahce back in 2004.

Haalands dad, Alf-Inge, turned out for Nottingham Forest, Leeds and City among others during his playing days and was famous for his bitter feud with United legend Roy Keane.
