Carrie Underwood And Husband Mike Fisher’s Love Story Is Adorable

womenshealth– While Carrie Underwood tends to keep her relationship with hockey-player husband Mike Fisher pretty private, what these two do share about each other is #couplegoals. They work out together, share social media shout-outs for each other, and are generally just there for each other.

So, you can expect Mike to show up big in support of his wife at the 2020 CMA Awards on Wednesday night. Carrie is nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year (ya know, NBDs), and Mike is always a red carpet regular with Carrie at awards shows.

And, even when he can’t be there, Mike shows up in spirit. “Wow what a night! Congrats @carrieunderwood I’m so proud of you for working so hard and using your gift for His glory!” he posted on Instagram after she won her third ACM Entertainer of the Year honor this year, using a pic that was obviously shot from his TV. “Wish I could’ve been there with you tonight!! #acmentertaineroftheyear.”

Um, how dang cute are these two?! Well, if you’re not totally up to date on Mike and Carrie’s love story, here’s everything you need to know about this power couple:

1September 2008: They were set up by Carrie’s bass player.

Carrie Underwood’s bassist, Mark Childers, first tried to set her up with the National Hockey League star in 2008, according to Bustle. But Carrie wasn’t a fan of blind dates—plus, she was skeptical, since Mike lived so far away in Canada.

So instead, Mark arranged for the two to cross paths at a meet-and-greet backstage at one of Carrie’s concerts.

Her reaction the first time she saw Mike: “Hot, hot, hot,” she said in her VH1 Behind The Music special, via Bustle. And the first impression she made on him was just as good: “First time I saw her, she was more beautiful in person than on TV.”

22008: Their relationship started as an LDR.

The couple began a long-distance relationship shortly after that meet-and-greet, which meant a lot of phone calls between Nashville, Tennessee—where Carrie lived—and Canada, where Mike played hockey for the Ottawa Senators.

“I mean, can I make dating more difficult?” she recalled on VH1’s Behind the Music, according to Bustle. “Let’s get a hockey guy who lives in another country. Awesome.”

But even with all the distance, Carrie never had any problem trusting Mike. She later told Glamour in a 2012 cover interview. “Any guy I’ve ever dated, there would always be that doubt…but I don’t have to worry about Mike.”

3December 2008: Their first kiss was on New Year’s Eve 2008.

After dating for a bit, Carrie and Mike finally shared a first kiss in New York City’s Times Square during the annual New Year’s Eve celebration, according to People.

“We were in front of people, and he’s not a big PDA guy,” Carrie told Glamour. “I figured, I’ll go in for it because he can’t leave me hanging, right? So I made him kiss me in public.”

4December 2009: They got engaged.

Mike popped the question to Carrie during a quiet afternoon at home, according to Country Living. And with a gorgeous canary diamond ring, no less.

“It’s true,” he told the Toronto Sun the next day. “We’re both obviously excited and very happy.”
