Living lightly: Do you have ‘good’ clothes that never get worn? Meet the women who make every day a dress-up occasion– ‘What’s this fancy thing?” My daughter asks, picking up a corner of what I’m wearing. I’ve come to collect her from school, and “this fancy thing” is a years-old cardigan, once pale pink, now faded to a drab shade of grey. I really need to up my game, I think, if this is what the person who sees me every day now counts as fancy.

Nearly 10 months into my Year of Living Lightly challenge of not buying clothes, I’ve done well at the no-shopping part, but very badly at wearing more than a small portion of my wardrobe.
